Congratulations to Veronica Reynolds for winning the Smarter Travel Professional of the Year Award for her ongoing commitment to creating a sustainable modal shift through behavioural change at Milton Park.
Vectos Behavioural Change Advisor, Veronica Reynolds, said she was delighted to receive the award for the smarter travel professional who has made an outstanding personal contribution to the industry.
“I was up against some incredibly tough competition, so it is very rewarding to know that the industry sees my contribution to sustainable travel as so valuable,” she said.
Milton Park is a 3.5 million sq ft business park with 9,000 employees. Vectos, led by Veronica, is implementing pioneering, but evidence-based behaviour change initiatives at the Park to make sustainable travel, cycling and car sharing the modes that people aspire to use and achieve a measurable modal shift.
Veronica has implemented a travel campaign promoting car-sharing, cycling and public transit using incentives, competitions and personalised travel planning to engage Milton Park’s businesses and employees. The Park’s thriving car share community has grown to over 650 users in 18 months.
“The data-driven and evidence-based approach has enabled me to successfully influence business leaders to encourage change within their workforce and local policy makers and stakeholders to prioritise improvements to local infrastructure and public transit options. This has reduced the number of single occupancy vehicles on the Park by 6% and we have seen cycling rates rise from 7% to 10% in 12 months”, she said.
Veronica has also helped secure £2.5 million of funding from Innovate UK to trial self-driving vehicles. This project will see the first mainstream use of fully connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) on UK public roads, with testing commencing in 2019. They will provide a last mile solution, connecting the Park with Didcot Parkway railway station further reducing the use of single occupancy vehicles.
Veronica will continue to progress sustainable travel initiatives and future-proof the Park with infrastructure improvements and innovations such as electric and autonomous vehicles, e-bikes and demand-responsive-transport solutions.
