Working with the two local planning authorities, Renfrewshire Council and Glasgow City Council, MEPC are introducing a simplified planning zone (SPZ) scheme to cover the entire Hillington Park site ( c. 200 hectares).

Once adopted, the scheme will last for 10 years, and will allow development, within the defined parameters, to come forward without further planning permission. The scheme divides the park into three zones, each of which has specific permitted development parameters and permitted uses. Business uses, mainly office, light industry, general industry and storage and distribution, continue to be the principal uses across the park. The scheme also allows an element of complementary uses, including a hotel, small scale retail, and leisure facilities, that will help to improve the vitality and sustainability of the park. As well as allowing the redevelopment of existing floorspace, the scheme permits an increase in total floorspace from c. 495,000 square metres to c.580,000 square metres.
